Social Value & Carbon Reduction
Community connectivity: America House Fast Internet
America House is a residential building of 22 flats in London SE1. Its old telephone lines could not provide adequate broadband.
RODMENA LIMITED operates a shared internet service for the whole building as part of our social value commitments, not as a profit line. We run it on a cost-recovery basis, bear the equipment costs ourselves, offer flexible payment to residents in financial difficulty, and look after every connected flat directly, including support and fault handling.
- 20 of 22 households use the service; 19 have full service today.
- Each flat gets up to 650 Mbps over a 1 Gbps symmetric leased line (iDNET over Openreach) with managed failover.
- Residents are invoiced formally, and the service is managed through RODMENA's own billing and operations platform.
More about the service: americahouse.net. Evidence available on request: info@rodmena.co.uk.
Social value commitments
- Open source: we build and maintain open-source software (Highway DSL and other tools). The tools we publish under the Apache-2.0 and MIT licences can be used freely by anyone, including UK public bodies. This is our largest ongoing contribution and it is verifiable at github.com/rodmena-limited, where each repository states its own licence.
- Skills: engagements include genuine knowledge transfer — training the customer's engineers to run their systems without us.
- UK economy: we are UK-based, UK-taxed and hire and subcontract in the UK when we grow.
- Fair work: anyone engaged by the company works freely, on fair terms, with prompt payment of suppliers and subcontractors. A supplier or subcontractor with a payment query can contact payments@rodmena.co.uk.
- Accessibility: our public web presence meets WCAG 2.2 AA (see the accessibility statement).
Carbon Reduction Plan
This Carbon Reduction Plan follows PPN 006 (Carbon Reduction Plans). Supplier: RODMENA LIMITED, company number 16472788. Published 8 अक्टूबर 2026.
Commitment to achieving Net Zero
RODMENA LIMITED is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2045, in line with the NHS target.
Baseline emissions footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases produced in the past, before any reduction strategy. They are the reference point against which progress is measured.
Baseline year: 1 जुलाई 2025 to 30 जून 2026, our first full year of operation for which every source is backed by bills.
Additional details
- Scope 1 is zero. RODMENA has no company vehicles and no manufacturing, and the office is heated by electricity only, so no fuel is burnt at premises the company controls.
- Scope 2 is the electricity used at our office at America House, London SE1, including the servers and the building network that RODMENA runs there: 8,980 kWh. This comes from the supplier's meter readings (85,438.2 on 1 जुलाई 2025 and 94,467.2 on 3 जुलाई 2026, supplier-estimated readings, no smart meter yet), scaled to 365 days. The office is also the director's home and shares one meter, so this figure includes domestic use. It overstates the company's share, and we have not reduced it.
- Emissions use the UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors (2025): UK grid electricity at 0.17700 kgCO2e per kWh, which gives 1.59 tCO2e on a location basis. On a market basis Scope 2 was nil, because the supply was on a 100% renewable electricity tariff throughout the baseline year. Transmission and distribution losses (0.17 tCO2e) are shown for information and are not part of the required subset.
- Scope 3, in the categories PPN 006 requires: business travel nil (no business journeys; future travel is rail first); employee commuting nil (the director lives at the office); upstream and downstream transport of goods nil (we ship no goods); waste generated in operations not material (there is no separate business waste stream).
- Not yet included: our hosting and software services (OVHcloud in the UK, France and Germany; iDNet and Cloud Nord in the UK; Google Workspace, Anthropic and GitHub). These are purchased services, outside the required subset. We will add them as the providers' figures become available.
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 | 0.00 |
| Scope 2 (location-based) | 1.59 |
| Scope 3 (included sources) | 0.00 |
| Total emissions | 1.59 |
Current emissions reporting
Reporting year: 1 जुलाई 2025 to 30 जून 2026. This first plan reports the baseline year, so the figures are the same as above.
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 | 0.00 |
| Scope 2 (location-based) | 1.59 |
| Scope 3 (included sources) | 0.00 |
| Total emissions | 1.59 |
Emissions reduction targets
To continue our progress to Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction target. We project that emissions will fall to 0.79 tCO2e by 2030, a reduction of 50% against the baseline, on the way to Net Zero by 2045. Progress against this target will be published every year.
Carbon reduction projects
Completed and in place
The following measures have been in place since the baseline and will stay in place for the duration of any contract:
- Video calls by default in place of travel to meetings
- Software designed to need fewer servers per workload: our workflow platform runs without separate queue or cache clusters
- Hosting providers chosen with their renewable-energy commitments in mind
- Rail first for travel within Great Britain
- Hardware kept in service for as long as practical, then reused or recycled through WEEE-compliant routes
Planned
- Move the office to a 100% renewable electricity tariff when its current fixed-term contract ends in 2028. The baseline year was supplied on a 100% renewable tariff; the office changed supplier in September 2026.
- Install a smart meter, so that consumption is measured rather than estimated, and meter the servers separately
- Cut the electricity the office servers use by consolidating workloads and replacing old hardware with more efficient hardware at end of life
- Add the emissions of our hosting and software services to this plan as the providers' figures become available
